this is the bay area news station, kron 4 news starts now. >> right now on kron-4. >> we believe that it is a true crime. >> is suspected kidnapper tries to grab a young girl. >> this is very bad. >> immortalize the better. parents in an east bay suburb are in fear tonight - after a man tried to abduct the latest on the hunt for a predator. we believe it's a true crime. we are investigating a suspected kidnapper attempts to grab a 12=year=old girl as she walks home from school. that's really bad throughneighbors in pinole want your help in finding the man in this picture. new tonight -- kron4's terisa estacio police say the attempted kidnapping happened here on the 1100 block of appian way in pinole. they saty the 12 girl was walking home from school when a man - leaning against the trunk of his car parked in a nearby driveway asked if she wanted a ride. when she refused. he

grabbed her by the wrist. police say the girl fought back, pulled her arm away and started running. this is pinole police commander peter janke. >> we imediately interviewed here, we believe it is a real crime and we are now putting out this sketch. take a look for yourself at this sketch. the suspect in this alleged attempted kidnapping is described as a white male, 19-20, 6 feet, slicked back hair brown goatee, and a piercing in his right eyebrow. >> are you talking to registered sex offenders? >> we are doing all we can. we have had neighborhood watch leaders call us and it says that it could possibly be this person. >> police say the girl was walking home from pinole middle school. they have alerted school resource officers to spread the word at the school to inform children and parents of the incident. terisa estacio, kron 4 news. >> catherine: as you just heard, a decades-old kidnapping is still fresh on the minds of some pinole

had nothing to say as he walked into the hall of justice this afternoon. as kron four's rob fladeboe reports now -- he entered guilty pleas on all counts. >> reporter: free on bail since his arrest earlier this month, 51-year-old george michael shirakawa marched into department 23 monday and made good on his surprising promise to admit his guilt. with several curt 'yes sir' and 'no sir', replies, shirakawa acknowledged his understanding that he was waving his right to a preliminary hearing and other proceedings that might keep him in the public spotlight for months. and then, for the next seven minutes, one charge at a time, the supervisor and former san jose city councilman entered guilty pleas to 13 felony and misdemeanor charges in connection with his alleged use of thousands of dollars of public funds and campaign contributions to gamble at casinos. in exhange for the guilty pleas, shirakawa received a guarantee of no time in state but he'll have to make full

restitution to taxpayers and campaign donors. >> people wrote checks to him they thought that they were supporting his campaign. instead they were supporting his gambling habit that went through the slush fund that was never made public that he was taking in money under false pretenses. >> reporter: the d.a's office also revealed that it is investigating shirakawa in connection with some 400-thousand dollars in gambling winnings. no comment from shirakaw on that either as he left court. he will return to court and assuming that there is no new charges he faces one possible year in the county jail. rob fladeboe, kron 4. >> catherine: a north bay community is mourning the the death of a santa rosa teenager. he was one of two people killed by an out of control race car at a northern

california race track saturday night. the driver of that car.is related to one of the victims. new tonight-- kron4's maureen kelly talked to the family. here you can see the growing memorial in front of the victim's family business.with candles, flowers.and stuffed animals. and messages to the victim.14 year old marcus johnson.here's one sign that says our sunshine.and shows a picture of marcus.who is standing on the left.with other family members.including his nine year old brother. here's a message in chalk has his racing number.18.and says you will be forever in our hearts. another message to his cousin who was driving the car that killed marcus.chase johnson.which says we love you chase, stay strong. i spoke to the grandparents of both boys.who you see here in this photo.marcus on the left, and chase on the right.they were too overwhelmed to go on camera.the grandfather says

that the acciddent was caused when the steering wheel came off of chase's race car.causing his to go the wrong way.he hit some tires put up as a barricade.and the car when up and over.hitting marcus who had just gotten up from his seat and was walking away.a 68 year old grass valley man was also killed. the family says chase feels terrible about the accident. the boys were very close.more like brothers than cousins.both boys loved to race.and and have been competing since they were small children. the grandfather says chase.a 17 year old senior at petaluma high school.told him that he was done with the sport. maureen kelly kron4 news. >> coming up. the high profile democrat. and possible 20-16 presidential candidate who's now getting behind same-sex marriage. then -- a devilish similarity. the evil biblical t-v character that's raising eyebrows.because some say he looks like a lot like the president. and -- new california employment numbers show that california is in a tie -- for worst in the nation. kron 4 breaks down the numbers, at 5-30.

(hammer) >> the sound of hammers. now heard again in california. new employment figures out today show the state's construction industry is finally reviving. grant lodes is here with the latest numbers from washington. >> yeah they are not all good. california still has the country's worst unemployment rate. for the past three months, california's unemployment rate has been stuck at nine=point=eight percent. the federal bureau of labor statistics says that's nearly two points above the national average of seven point nine percent. but over the last year, california has added more than a quarter=million jobs.

that's more than any other state. except texas. now let's drill down to the construction industry. nationally, employment in that sector increased by 28=thousand. one quarter of that total was in california. and thesee numbers are from january, not the busiest time of the year for contractors. economists say there is a direct correlation to the real estate market. there are not enough homes on the market now to meet the demand. as prices rise, home builders have started to ramp up new construction. housing starts still are well below what they were before the financial crisis, but they are higher than they've been in four years. more hammers and more saws equal more jobs. hospitality and leisure jobs sector also grew exponentially. >> catherine: the vatican has released details of the pope's installation mass tomorrow.. it will be a simpler version of the 2005 ceremony for pope benedict. more than 132 government

politician this afternoon. former santa clara county supervisor george shirakawa jr. pleaded guilty to 13 felony and misdemeanor counts. he'd been accused of misusing public funds and campaign contributions. shirakawa is accused of using his county-issued credit card and a secret slush fund from his campaign to finance a gambling habit. in exchange for the guilty plea -- he won't be sentenced to any time in state prison. shirakawa had no comment as he left court.
